Simple homestyle apple cinnamon oatmeal made in the microwave. A plant-based, BLW-friendly recipe that’s soft, wholesome, and perfect for first bites and throughout the years.
2tablespoonsagave or maple syrupoptional; for older babies/toddlers
1large applepeeled if desired, small diced or 1 cup apple compote
½teaspooncinnamon
Instructions
In a large, deep microwave-safe bowl (to prevent overflow), stir together the oats, water, diced apple, cinnamon, and sweetener, if using.
Microwave uncovered on high for 3 minutes.
Stir well, then return to the microwave for 2–3 additional minutes, watching carefully to prevent bubbling over.
Let the oatmeal rest for 2–3 minutes. The apples will continue to soften and the oats will thicken.
Stir again and adjust the texture with a splash of warm water, if needed, to reach a soft, BLW-appropriate consistency. For younger eaters, you can use a potato masher to ensure a smoother bite.
